On Tuesday, April 3, 2018, the Danvers Police Department and Danvers Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 71 Poplar Street, an unoccupied residence under extensive renovation.
At the time of the incident, the fire was deemed suspicious. The damage due to fire was estimated to be $130,000.00. The Danvers Police Criminal Investigation Division, Danvers Fire Department fire investigators, Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office and to the Crime Scene Services Section conducted a joint origin and cause investigation.
As a result of this collaborative effort, four juveniles, twelve to fifteen years of age, all residents of Danvers, were identified as having entered the building. A thirteen year old juvenile has been identified as having started the fire.
Charges of burning a building and breaking and entering have been filed at the Essex County Juvenile Court in Salem. Due to the age of the offenders, no further information relative to this investigation will be released.
