The Danvers Police Department is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a Basic Physical Defense for Women course this May. The Rape Aggression Defense System (R.A.D.) is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques specifically for women.
The R.A.D. System is dedicated to teaching women defense concepts and techniques against various types of assault, by utilizing easy, effective and proven self-defense/martial arts tactics.
The course begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, and progresses to hands-on physical defense techniques. The course is taught be certified R.A.D. instructors from the Danvers Police Department and is open to women ages 18 and up. No previous self-defense experience is required and the course is free of charge to all participants.
This course consists of four classes, each of which are three hours long. Participants should attend all four evenings. The schedule is as follows:
•Thursday, May 4, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
•Thursday, May 11, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
•Thursday, May 18, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
•Thursday, May 25, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Classes will be held at the Holten Richmond Middle School, 55 Conant Street, Danvers, MA.

The Town of Danvers has an opening for a full time Civilian Dispatcher. The position, located at the Police Station communications center, is responsible for the full range of dispatch functions, including emergency telephone and radio communication, alarm line monitoring, and incident documentation.
