The Danvers Police Department is pleased to announce that we will again be hosting a Basic Physical Defense for Women course this October/November. If you missed out on the chance to take the course in the spring, register early, as the class is limited in size and fills quickly! You do not have to be a Danvers Resident to attend and the class is free of charge to all participants.
The Rape Aggression Defense Systems (R.A.D.) is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques created specifically for women. R.A.D. is dedicated to teaching women defense concepts and techniques against various types of assault, by utilizing easy, effective and proven self-defense/martial arts tactics.
The course begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, and progresses to hands-on physical defense techniques. The course is taught by certified R.A.D. instructors from the Danvers Police Department and is open to women ages 18 and up. If you are between the ages of 15-18 and would like to participate, you may do so in the company of a participating parent or guardian (waiver must be signed). This is a great opportunity for mother/daughter teams! No previous self-defense experience is required.
This course consists of four classes, each of which are three hours long. Participants should attend all four evenings. The schedule is as follows:
•Tuesday, October 23rd, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
•Tuesday, October 30th, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
•Tuesday, November 6th, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
•Tuesday, November 13th, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
